NWS Issues Severe Weather, Flash Flood Warnings
The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued multiple advisories for the middle of the week. On Wednesday, there is a marginal risk of excessive rainfall in Union County along with a threat of severe weather over the northeast plains. Residents should also be aware of an increased risk of burn scar flash flooding through the end of the week. Temperatures are expected to be near average for this time of year.
Rain chances for Tuesday afternoon and evening vary across locations. Areas like Raton are expected to see only a 1% chance of precipitation, while Las Vegas has a 38% likelihood, and Albuquerque is at 42%. In addition, locations such as Fort Sumner, Glenwood, and Ruidoso have 25%, 57%, and 48% chances, respectively.
For Wednesday afternoon and evening, the probability of precipitation is higher in several areas. Farmington is forecast to have a 45% chance while Clayton is at 60%. Las Vegas is expected at 50% and Corona at 62%, with other areas like Raton, Clines Corners, Roswell, and Glenwood ranging between 22% and 39% chance of rain.
There is a possibility of isolated to scattered strong thunderstorms capable of producing hail and gusty, erratic wind gusts. In addition, scattered severe thunderstorms are expected primarily over northeast and east central areas, with the potential for large hail and damaging winds.
The National Weather Service advises residents to take precautions during thunderstorm activity. When thunder roars, go indoors, and always follow safety guidelines during flash flood conditions.
