Meter Upgrade Underway in Apex; Phase II Begins Oct. 2025

APEX, N.C. — The town-wide Meter System Upgrade is underway to replace most electric meters, with Phase 2 beginning in October 2025. Most electric customers will be affected.

Crews are currently working in Woods at Walden Creek, Haddon Place, Haddon Hall, Beaver Creek Apartments, Lake Cameron Apartments, Lexington, Salem Oaks, Southwalk, and Cameron Park, and will soon move into Camden Lake Pine, Homestead Park, Abbington, Linden, and Woodridge.

What to expect: Work is done Monday–Saturday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; crews will knock and leave a door hanger if no one is home. Meters are outdoors so residents do not need to be present for the swap, and technicians will take before-and-after photos. If a meter is behind a locked gate or has a padlock on the base, residents will be asked to schedule a follow-up; if they are not available to remove a padlock, the contractor may cut it. A very brief power loss of under one minute may occur during the change, so residents should be prepared to reset clocks and devices.

Phase 1 (water endpoints) is complete.

The upgrades will provide more detailed usage data in a new customer portal coming in summer 2025, help detect leaks and outages faster, and make meter reading more efficient. Residents needing assistance or to arrange access should check the town project page or submit a request through the town’s online form.
